He Finally Made It!

Sara and I are proud to announce the birth of our son, Samuel David Mead. Sam arrived at 11:15pm Wednesday night, January 3rd, at Southern Regional Hospital, and was 6 lbs 14 ounces and 20 1/2 inches in length. Both he and his mom are in good health. We all made the trip back home Friday afternoon. Having been released by the hospital mid morning, we decided to wait out the tornadoes that touched down around our house and the hospital. All patients were ordered to wait in the hallway until the tornado warnings expired. We tried to take a few pictures of everyone out in the hall for your entertainment.

As you know, Sara was scheduled for an induction Thursday morning. Late Tuesday night, however, Sara began feeling strong contractions, and by 5:30am Wednesday, they were only several minutes apart. We left for the hospital and arrived around 7:30. Sara was admitted a couple of hours after that. The labor/delivery room was very large and well-appointed, and given the fact that she spent over 15 hours in there, it was that much more appreciated.

Sara was given kudos by her doctor for doing so well during labor, especially that crucial last hour. The climax of the day came at 11:15pm when Sam came into the world, just in time to have the same birthday as his great grandpa Mead, who would have been 103.

Sara's mother and I were in the room with Sara during the delivery, and her grandparents and my parents were there the whole day, giving their support and encouragement.

Sam looks so different than just two days ago, but here are some pictures of Sam's first few minutes in this world...
